NCI Clinical Trials Training for Nurses
As part of its initiative to enhance clinical trial development on the island, the Consortium instituted a training program in clinical trial management for oncology nurses from Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Oncology nurses spend five weeks in the United States, rotating between oncology units at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center and the NCI branch at the National Naval Medical Center. Working closely with oncology nurse-preceptors, the nurses learn the components of clinical trial management, including the roles and responsibilities of team members. During training, the nurses focus on a team approach to managing clinical trials.
Eighteen nurses from the island of Ireland comprise the 2002-2007 rounds of nurse trainees.
The Targeted Call for Applications for Clinical Trials Training 2007 has closed. For more information on Clinical Trial Training 2008, please visit our web page after January 2008.
