Cancer Prevention Fellow

A 2002-05 Cancer Prevention Fellow at the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Cantwell is currently a lecturer at Queen's University Belfast. Dr. Cantwell completed one year of research at NCI prior to completing her MPH at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She earned her PhD in nutrition from Trinity College Dublin

As part of her PhD studies, she developed and validated a food frequency questionnaire and nutrient database to assess trans unsaturated fatty acid intake in Ireland. She validated a food frequency questionnaire, currently used in several prospective cohort studies in the US to assess heterocyclic amine intake and cancer risk. Other research questions studied as part of her mentored research at NCI include: reproductive factors and bladder cancer risk; fatty acid intake and colorectal adenoma recurrence and early life exposures, including infant feeding and cancer risk.
